Interests:

  • Residents with an interest in preclinical in vitro (cellular, subcellular, and molecular) and in vivo (tumor-bearing mice and rats) studies are welcome. The laboratory is interested in the radiobiologic effects of diagnostic and therapeutic radionuclides and the therapeutic potential of radiolabeled molecules.
Recommended time commitment:  4 months full time/12 months part time

ASHFAQ MAHMOOD, PH.D.

ashfaq_mahmood@hms.harvard.edu
617 432-3995 Interests:

  • Designing and evaluating small receptor and target specific radiopharmaceuticals both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Our interests are focused in two broad areas of tumor and neuroreceptor imaging.

On-going projects include:
  1. Small molecules specifically designed for targeting various tumors. (melanoma, prostate and breast cancer)
  2. Small molecules designed for high affinity binding to various brain neuroreceptors.
The nature of the projects run from the initial conception of the molecular design, synthesis of the molecules to the in-vitro and in-vivo evaluations of the radiopharmaceutical in various cellular and animal models.Ê The nature of the projects requires at least a 6 months to a year or more of time commitment.
